Black Tie 161I'm picking up some dripping sarcasm here....or is it just me?

For the record, if I am curious about a topic, I WILL do a topic and keyword search before asking a question that may have been answered a dozen times before. The benefit is a bunch of immediate answers instead of having to wait for people to reply.

If I find out some interesting info to share, I will just post it and not check to see if someone had already said it before.....It would take too long to post anything if I had to check to see if it wasn't already said.

Gary CI have always been curious if people know how to use the many cool functions of this site. I guess I should use more

BT, thanks for your thoughts, a piece of coal for you for Xmas. LOL, LOL, LOL, LOL

Marty UsherWOW Gary - I just did a search for "Fastest" and all 200 posts confirmed "BLACK KATS ARE THE FASTEST" I guess I won't have to post that again!
whealyMarty,

Good one.

Gary,

I use it all the time. For instance, here's a http://www.prowleronline.com/cgi-bin/search.cgi to all the posts you have put on the board about using the search feature. This is an eample that goes across all topics for a particular user.

Gary...I can't read that line without Mr. Rogers voice in my head! Too funny.....or is it just me again?

Wayne Finchuse it all the time......but obviously some don't
Randy CobbI've just starting using it.
I should have been using it all along. It took me a while, about 5 months, before I learned how useful it can be.
It really helps when trying to research about a question without having to wait for a response as Black Tie posted.

It's a great tool that I think more members would use if they took the time to go to it a few times to get accustomed to it.

Gary CWhealy I tried to fix your link, but something is way wrong, sorry. I went Blank, lol

Dead End DonY'know, I have used the search function, and it DOES work great. Even as a new member, I can tell that a lot of the "old timers" get tired of posting replies and links for newbies on the usual new owner concerns (mud flaps, center caps, etc., etc.)

However, it might seem a bit "cold" to new members to be slagged off with a "seek and ye shall find" reply to their first posts.

Maybe a section could be added with a list of typical new owner concerns/problems, with the links posted for everyone to refer to????

It might be a nice "welcoming" feature, save a lot of newbies some embarrassment, and spare the regulars from having to respond over and over again to the same stuff...

Bob HackerGary C.,
Search is a great tool, I use all the time.

GRROWLThanks for asking.

Search is GRReat!!! Use it ALL the time.

It can be GRReatER:

Now that the board is over 2 years old, there are two areas where I wonder if we can look at some search enhancements:

1. Additional date range options. With the limited period options (1 to 30 days or everything), it's almost like ALL or NOTHING. A variable date range would be useful to search, for instance, washing or overheating problems in the summer; or snow and heater problems in the winter; or "I remember seeing something about a year ago".

2. Ways to search ALL hits when the 200 counter overflows. When searching for a popular term, the hits stop at 200 with no access to other potential hits (or am I missing something where I can go back in 200 hit batches?). Some approaches from other search engines allow secondary searches within the initial search (narrowing search with additional terms or filters); or an "advanced" search allowing more variables (such as "brakes" but "NOT ceramic"). The above suggestion of variable date ranges would also help since the search could step back, say, 3 months at a time.

And also a suggestion that would help the newcomers (or, possibly, everyone):

The EBAY search on the home page is GRReat - one click and all [(Plymouth + Chrysler) Prowler] postings are shown without the annoying travel trailers, fishing lures, airplane models, etc. Can the top 25 or 50 topics be pre-packaged (mud flaps, ceramic brake pads, pitting wheels, etc., etc.). This could be a quick way to implement the "New Tips Page" that was suggested in the past (See:
http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003331.html

If this list of prepackaged searches could be automatically sorted by frequency of use, it would be VERY useful.

Just some ideas.

-GRROWL

Dave MillsI use the search option from time to to time. I understand how to use it, but I am not frequent user.

Getting older, sometimes I can't remember what I ate for breakfast this morning. Wait - I DIDN'T eat breakfast this morning.

Just because you have a birthday tomorrow, it doesn't exactly put you in the "nearing retirement, needing a hearing aid and herbal memory enhancment supplements" age group! Just try getting home from your birthday celebrations in time to eat breakfast instead of lunch.

Brian KingHi Gary

Do we have a help page, or a page to go to to lookup all the neat things that the web page offers and can do for members.

I know as we spend time on the site useful info is shared, but do we have a newbie page. This may allow others to feel more comfortable faster when joining us.

Gary C click here

I believe this page is a good start for a newbie or an old crusty member...

Believe me I didn't start this thread for us to respond to someone new DO A SEARCH,,,,,,,,,Like some other hard core boards but us to have a better understanding of the site, for the newbies please feel free to view the whole site and enjoy yourselves, if you have a question someone is always here to point you in the correct direction,,,,,,,,,

The search function is not fool proof, at times I even have problems,,,, don't give up.........

fixummGary i having been searching for search but i having no luck But i will keep searcking for it.... does this answer your question

Happy new year bud
